Frame Wreath {Upcycle of the Week}

I saw this WREATH at The Diary of Dave's Wife last August and fell in LOVE. I've been dying to do something similar for my own door. She uses paper and I chose to use fabric and my flowers are different. I love the way my turned out and I wanted to share how I did it. Thanks, Kristy, for the inspiration!

I LOVE Goodwill...I know I say it all the time. If you live in the Mesa, AZ area the best store (in my opinion) is the one on Recker and Main. There's a lot of treasures from the Snowbird popullation that get donated.

I saw this frame at Goodwill for $5 and knew it would be PERFECT for my front door! Its made of metal and I adore the shape of it.
I spray painted it with Krylon Brushed Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze, comes out looking black, but metallic black.
The frame was large enough to fit our last name onto it, so I picked up wooden letters at JoAnns for $1 each.
I spray painted them the same as the frame.

Next, I wanted to embellish the letters with paper roses.

First, freehand a spiral onto a page of an old book. I have a torn up Complete Works of Shakespeare I use for Book Wreaths.
 Cut the spiral out...
Starting with the inside, roll it up to look like a rosebud.
Then I dab hotglue onto the letter, place the outside of the paper flower on the glue.
Make another dab of hot glue...
...and gently place the flower bud on that dab. Don't worry if its not glued down solid, its fun to have the flower a little free flowing.
So do this to all the letters. Cute, huh?
I picked up a half a yard of fabric I liked at JoAnns...going with a black and white theme here.
I used the picture in the frame to trace onto the fabric.
Then mod podged the fabric on top of the picture.
Put the frame back together and put a piece of fabric at the top to use as a hanger.
Then I hot glued the letters onto the fabric.

The last step is some fabric flower embellishment. I wanted to do gathered fabric flowers because they're fast and cute.

Cute a 2 inch wide by 10-15 inch long piece of fabric. You can also use ribbon, but I like how the fabric frays a bit for a shabby look.
Take a needle and thread and do a running stitch along the bottom edge of the fabric, gathering it as you go along.
The fabric will automatically start to roll and form your flower.
When its all gathered, stitch the two loose ends together and you have your flower.
Hot glue some gems in the center and BAM, cute gathered flower which also make great hair accessories!

I did two black satin and one of the same fabric in the center of my frame.

I glued them on using hot glue and my frame wreath is complete. :)

I love it and I get a ton of compliments on it, even the delivery guy last week said he liked knowing he was at the right house before knocking on the door.

So I hope I've inspired you to upcycle an old frame into a beautiful wreath for your door!

The entire cost of the project was:
Goodwill frame $5
Spray paint $3
Wooden letters $4
Fabric $2
I had the glue and mod podge already in my supplies.
Total: $14

My Romantic Bedroom Makeover

I am so excited! ITS DONE! I have seriously had this bedroom design in my head for about a year and I thought I was going to burst until my husband and I decided that instead of taking a summer vacation we should put that money into giving ourselves something nice that we can enjoy all the time. However our budget wasn't big and we had to buy a king size bedframe and mattress with the money.

So I plotted and planned and searched the internet and every store I went to until I found all the elements to bring our master bedroom together. We didn't spend a lot, but I really feel like I got a rich look...

My theme was black, white and gray with a touch of turquoise/robin's egg blue (my husbands favorite color) and I wanted to have a good mix of masculine and feminine. Let me know what you think...seriously, I'm not a designer, I just pretend to be one in my head!

We hit Ikea and found this AWESOME frame that I put fabric into! LOVE IKEA!!

We painted the walls "Worn and Weathered Tin"...just a color I picked out at Walmart. I don't mind their paint since I seem to repaint the entire house every 4-5 years.

I did a tone on tone stripe on the wall the bed is on, its very subtle and is the same color of paint just the wall is satin and the stripe is gloss. It looks fab when the light hits the wall.

The bedding is from Kohls, another store I love!

Bedframe was $150 at Ikea
Lamps, side tables and even the mattress are all from Ikea!

Ok, my gallery wall! The middle frame is from Goodwill $5, the two big black ones I had but they were cherry wood I spray painted and all the rest I got for FREE from freecycle...if you haven't every checked that site out go to it! And I just spray painted everything the colors I wanted and put in some fabric pieces that I already had.

I love how the gray walls make the white pop!

Here are the owls I got at Goodwill and spray painted along with more frames from freecycle with pictures I printed of our kids.

The computer lives in our room and the desk has more "design" work to be done...the star I got on clearance at JoAnns $5 and the curtains are Walmart $10 a panel.

I still have a couple small little projects to finish, but I just love our bedroom. Its so calming and is finally a place I want to spend time in...I really encourage people to have a place for you, especially if you have a spouse its important to have a "getaway" and I'm so happy to finally have ours!

Ok as an afterthought, I totally forgot to put a "BEFORE" picture up...here's my before. The bedroom was nice, but not calming and serene or overly romantic and now it is all that! :)

Tissue Poms and Fashion

I had the most AMAZING opportunity this past weekend. My friend, Sarah, at Moments Defined Photography asked me to assist her in a fashion photo shoot for the up and coming stylist at CamarattaJuliette.

Bonus was that she asked me to make tissue poms for the shoot. It was really cool to use them in this old abandoned produce warehouse that is covered in grafitti and practically falling down. They're this touch of feminine in this delapitated place.

If you love the poms and are in the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley/Gilbert area I will be offering them for sale. I have them hanging as decoration in my own children's rooms, I've used them a million times for party decorations and they're AWESOME photography props.

Here's my price list:
Large $4
Medium $3.50
Small $3

Email me with what colors you are looking for. Pick up is free and there is a delivery fee depending on how far I have to drive. Please allow up to two weeks for these to be created for your event.

Upcycle of the Week {LINK PARTY}

I am going to try to feature an upcycling project every week...or maybe every two weeks (depending on how much time I have). This week I found two owl statues at Goodwill for $2 each.

I've always loved owls, since I did a report on them in the third grade so I wanted to have some in my home.

Its amazing what a little high gloss white spray paint can do!

Remember to spray in a well ventilated area...I always spray outside, even though we've been in the 100s this week.

I bought my spray paint at Walmart, I use Krylon High Gloss White. I also LOVE their spray paint for plastic, I redid my kids outside table and chairs from Ikea a couple months ago. They were looking faded and so I sprayed them brown and BAM like new again.
So total cost:
2 Owl Statues $4
1 can of spray paint $3.24
TOTAL: $7.24

Time Invested: I did this on commercial breaks for a show to let the paint dry between coats so about an hour total!

What are some of your favorite upcycling projects?? I'm hosting my FIRST link up party...SO...Link up below!
