Upcycle of the Week {LINK PARTY}

I am going to try to feature an upcycling project every week...or maybe every two weeks (depending on how much time I have). This week I found two owl statues at Goodwill for $2 each.

I've always loved owls, since I did a report on them in the third grade so I wanted to have some in my home.

Its amazing what a little high gloss white spray paint can do!

Remember to spray in a well ventilated area...I always spray outside, even though we've been in the 100s this week.

I bought my spray paint at Walmart, I use Krylon High Gloss White. I also LOVE their spray paint for plastic, I redid my kids outside table and chairs from Ikea a couple months ago. They were looking faded and so I sprayed them brown and BAM like new again.

So total cost:

2 Owl Statues $4

1 can of spray paint $3.24

TOTAL: $7.24

Time Invested: I did this on commercial breaks for a show to let the paint dry between coats so about an hour total!

Tutu LOVE

I made this tutu for a friend and she had her family pictures done by Kristen Self Photography and isn't little Sky the cutest!!
Plus I love that apple fabric, yes its the same fabric I used to make my son's teacher's apron! Isn't that a fun coincidence!

An Apple for Teacher

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and tomorrow is Teacher Appreciation Day!

So last week I took my five year old down to JoAnns and let him pick out fabric to make his teacher an apron. He saw this cute apple print, oh he's so like his mommy, and we both instantly knew it would make the perfect apron for his kindergarten teacher.

I finished it up tonight and he is so excited to give it to her tomorrow!

 I've loved this pattern for a long time, its a vintage inspired apron pattern and I really think that if you're going to wear an apron it had better be DANG cute! 

I used to be a teacher and I know how hard they work and how little teachers get paid, especially for all the extra hours they put in!! If you have kids in school, even if you don't always see eye to eye with their teachers, just take a few minutes and send a card or even an email thanking them for all they do! Trust me, it makes a difference...I can remember every parent who thanked me or complimented me...so get out there are appreciate those teachers!

Prom Dress Upcycling

I have started an in home business, in addition to my crafting/etsy shop that I do for fun...the goal is to get my husband down to one job while allowing me to be home with my kids! He is a hard working man with two jobs and school. :)

Anyway, I am doing alterations and with Prom, for a few local high schools, tomorrow, the past couple of weeks have been busy!

I just wanted to share my major overhaul. I got this dress as a last minute re-do. The gal found it at Goodwill (love that place) and liked the peacock green color. Also the dress was a size 8 and she is a size 3. I thought the color had a vintage feel and suggested we went 1960s with it...ya know Mad Men style is very in.

I finished the dress tonight, just in time for Prom tomorrow...I did it all in three days! Thats while juggling my three kids and other alteration jobs. As a reward, my husband and I are taking a well deserved night off and going out on our first date in three months tomorrow!

My Baby Boy and Rainbow Joy

So, the rainbow cupcakes were a HUGE hit!

I made them for St. Patty's Day and for my little Bubba's first birthday!

 The recipe called for whip cream on top, but I have a great cream chees frosting recipe that was perfect with the lightness of these cupcakes. They were not hard to make, just way more steps then a cupcake should be...but the reaction of my kids made it totally worth it.

Here's my birthday boy ripping into his cupcake...it lasted all of five minutes before there was nothin' but crumbs.

My little girl likes frosting, not a big cake fan, so she ate half of it, but loved the pretty rainbow. 

 And my oldest enjoyed every bite, but wondered where the gold was at the end of the rainbow.

I will definately be making these again, we'll just keep it to an annual basis!
